With the LG G5 release touching down in the states last week (April 1st), we will expect to see it launched in the UK this week (April 8th). The South Korean company will unveil their first ever modular handset, meaning you can upgrade it with accessories and it will still maintain its contemporary, premium all-metal feel and design. The LG G5 is launching two months earlier than its typical annual renewal cycle, and its price is cheaper than its rival flagship devices; Samsung Galaxy S7, S7 Edge and iPhone. But will it be worth it? Let’s dig a bit deeper and see what the G5 has to offer.
Key features and Specifications:
1) LG G5 is Modular
A modular phone is a new smartphone design in which different pieces can be swapped out for different kinds of functionality. The LG G5 has a removable battery and microSD card tray in a sleek metal body and it can change shape and add new features.
2) Three Cameras
The LG G5 has a third camera on the back. This third camera offers a wide-angle, 135-degree lens. That’s a smartphone first, and it lets you get a whole lot more in frame.
3) Very powerful
The LG G5 is the first phone from a major manufacturer packing the blisteringly-quick Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor. That should make it one of the fastest around, especially since it’s backed up with a hefty 4GB of RAM.
Dual-rear cameras (16Mp 78 degree and 8Mp 135 degree) with OIS and laser auto focus
11ac dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, NFC, Infrared, fingerprint scanner
Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, quad-core
5.3in Quad HD IPS screen (1440x2560, 554ppi)
Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow with UX 5.0
Micro-SD card slot (up to 200GB)
2800mAh removable battery (60hrs)
8Mp front camera
Cat 9 4G LTE
LG are finally moving away from the cheap plastic choice of material used on the previous devices by upgrading the G5 to a premium all-metal chassis. Another great addition to the G5 is the always-on display, making it so you don’t ever have to turn on the G5 display to check the time because it always shows dimly lit essential information, even when it's off. There's more than one LG G5 camera on the back of the phone, and that's exciting news if you ever had to back up in order to properly snap a wide photo. The G5 also contains a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor and 4GB of RAM, which is the same specs configuration as other flagship phones like the Samsung Galaxy S7.
