Congratulations on your new phone! Whether this is your first smartphone or you're an experienced smartphone user, our 5-step guide will help you switch your phones like a pro.
1. Check your device and the box
We understand how thrilling it is to see and hold your new phone for the first time. So, first and foremost, enjoy that feeling since your new device will keep you connected to the people, places, and things that are most important to you. After that, look in the 4gadgets box for a charger and a SIM removal tool which will help you in inserting the SIM card into your new device. We advise against discarding it because it may come in handy if you ever need to replace your SIM card again.
2. Add your SIM card
The SIM card can be removed and inserted in a tiny tray on iPhones and newer Android phones. If you have an Apple device, the tray will be located on the right side of the device. If you have Android phone, it can be either on the back behind the battery or on top. Please note that your device can be powered on or off when removing or inserting a sim card (This will not cause any kind of damage to the device).
3. Plug the phone in to get the battery charging
Most of our phones are only partially charged when we ship them to our customers. As a result, you should plug the phone in and get the battery charged because you don't want it to die when you're in the middle of setting it up. We recommend charging your phone fully for the first time. However, in the future, the best practice would be to charge it at 80% or 90% only. To learn more about how to protect your battery, check out our blog on the top 10 tips for saving your battery.
4. Go through the set-up process
You will be taken through the setup procedure when you power on your phone for the first time. This process may alter slightly from phone to phone, but it is generally the same. In most cases, you will also go through operating system updates, which we recommend applying as they should provide better security and functionality. The first step towards personalising your new Apple or Samsung device is to log in to your Google account. You should not skip if you want to synchronize your identity across devices and automatically set up your email, calendar, and contacts list. If you owned android device before, you will also be connected to the Google Play Store and your phone will attempt to download all your old apps.
Quick tip : Make sure you are connected to a wireless network if you don’t have unlimited data. You are almost certainly going to be downloading a lot on your first day with your phone, so it might not be a good idea to start eating into your monthly limit right away.
5. You are now ready to use it!
Your new smartphone should now be ready to use. If you have any remaining time after the setup, it may be worthwhile to go over the settings and sift through the menus and submenus, noting where different features are located. This will save you a lot of time in the future, and you could even learn something new about your gadget.
Extra tips after the set-up
HOW TO FIND YOUR IMEI
You can find the device's IMEI or serial number either underneath the battery or inscribed on the back. Alternatively you can get the IMEI up by dialing *#06# and it will be display on the device's screen. An IMEI is 15 characters long and normally starts with either 01 or 35.
SECURE YOUR DEVICE
It's no secret that your phone has a lot of sensitive data on it, especially if you use it for shopping, making payments, or ordering your favourite meal through food delivery apps. As a result, we strongly advise using the appropriate security measures, such as a PIN, pattern lock, or fingerprint sensors, to protect your privacy and identity. You can easily set this up if you go to your Location & Security Settings on most Android devices. If you want to set this up on iOS, head to your settings' general options.
DOWNLOAD NEW APPS
Boost your productivity, get in better shape, stay organised, play games, and more. When it comes to downloading apps, the choices are unlimited. To search and explore new apps on android devices head over to Google Play store. If you are an iPhone user, visit the Apple App Store to see what apps are available.
