An App that is proven to help children with ADHD
Aimed at ages 8-12, the team at Akili Interactive have developed an iOS game for Apple iPhone and Apple iPad called "EndeavorRx"? that is clinically proven to help kids with ADHD. Currently only in the available in the US, the app has even been given approval by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) which will allow it to be prescribed by doctors.
The study was on over 600 children over 7 years of clinical trials, and around 200 of them no longer had a measurable attention deficit on at least one measure of objective attention"? after playing for 25 minutes a day, 5 days a week for 4 weeks. These aren't the world beating results that were hoped for, but anything that can potentially make life easier for children that struggle with ADHD is a step in the right direction.
We are still in relatively early stages with developers looking into medical applications for our handheld devices, but it is definitely a step in the right direction and a promising outlook on what these may look like in the future. If the industries of medicine and video games can come together as one to help children without the need to use actual drugs, is good in our books.
